About DRIFT

Welcome to the very first immersive open world podcast, written, voiced and prompted by humans. Delivered to you every day brand new.

Encounter characters reflecting on 21st-century pre-climate collapse struggles. Get to know how they've adapted to life after sea levels rose by over 10 meters, dealing with daily storms and extreme draughts. Drawing on real meteorological data and climate news, they highlight humanity's and nature's losses and leaps… to survive.

Drift tells the story of a future Dutch landscape where humans, flora and fauna have settled for a new techno-liquid balance. The story world combines the imaginary with factual data-sources at the pace and rhythm of the lunar phases and the tides of the sea.

Inspired by games, immersive theater and digital storytelling we hacked podcasting into a whole new genre and experience. Drift with us during a 30-day storytelling cycle. Dive in with an octopus holding up a black mirror. Follow an essential worker that keeps our comfy lives going, doing the upkeep of the future tech post-climate collapse environment we'll live in. Tune in daily and learn about the big changes between the now and the then, roughly 500 years into the future.

DRIFT is a creation from immersive storytelling collective Blackbird from the Machine ("Merel uit de Machine") produced by Studio ZZZAP and VPRO Medialab.

How to add an RSS feed to a podcast app

To join the DRIFT, and listen successfully during this 30 day lunar cycle there are three steps you need to take.

Step 1. Install a podcast app on your phone. You've already got one? Great, go to step 2. Otherwise follow this step first.

For iPhone users we recommend Apple Podcasts, For Android users we think Podkicker is the simplest app out there. But if you want to have your own pick, check this website with recommended apps and a description on how to import an RSS feed.

Step 2. Add DRIFT: you need to import a unique url into your podcast app. This is called an RSS feed. In most apps you can find this under 'library' or the search function.

For Apple Podcasts try this:

  1. Open the app.
  2. Go to Library (third button on the bottom)
  3. Press the three dots on the top right of the screen
  4. Click 'Follow a Show by URL'
  5. Enter this url: https://merel.club/feeds/drift or copy it from the top of this page

For Podkicker, follow these steps:

  1. Open the app.
  2. Go to the top right corner and select the search icon (magnifying glass).
  3. Choose the RSS option.
  4. Paste this URL: https://merel.club/feeds/drift or copy it from the top of this page

Good to Know: Unfortunately, Spotify doesn't allow custom RSS feeds. Please use another app that does.

If you're still having trouble, feel free to email us at help@merel.club.
